INTER ASSOCIATION
At the inter association meet, swimmers are selected to swim for the Liverpool and District Team. (10 – 14yrs) The club had 32 swimmers selected to compete which took place Saturday and Sunday 24th/25th May at Everton Park. The main body of the team was made up of Southport swimmers. There was some great swimming involving our own swimmers winning a total of 34 medals and taking the District into a nail biting last session, in a head to head with North Lancs, with Liverpool just missing out on top spot. Well done to all the swimmers who were selected to take part.
NORTH WEST YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS (14 + girls 15+ boys)
The club had six swimmers competing at the new 50 mt pool in Liverpool in May, Andy Johnson, Jacob Lever, Laura Hyland, Zoe Patrickson, Laura Halsall and Eve Fellows. With all getting top 8 positions and medals being won by Laura Hyland, Laura Halsall and Zoe Patrickson. Well done to you all.
NORTH WEST AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS (10 – 14 boys 10 – 13 girls)
These championships took place at the beginning of June at the Commonwealth Pool Manchester The club having 33 competitors at this, the second biggest age group competition in the country, as we expected our swimmers dominated in some age groups winning a total of 37 medals and making a further 48 finals. In some finals the club had more than three swimmers and in one final we had five out of the 8 finalist. A magnificent achievement by all the swimmers, with winning all that ‘bling’ and making all those finals it placed the club in third overall club position. The only teams ahead of Southport were Gallica (Which is an amalgamation of most of the North West Micro League Teams) which won the top club award at last years National Age Groups and Stockport Metro which have been the National Speedo Champions on more that one occasion recently.
Out of the top 13 clubs Southport were the only non council assisted squad with all the benefits they attract like, as much water time as needed, times of the water time and having full time professional coaches. This success is a credit to all the swimmers, coaches, backroom staff and parents, well done to you all. All the results will be placed on the notice board.
A special mention to the following swimmers who after the NW Regions are ranked in the top swimmers in their age group in Britain.
