MICRO LEAGUE DIVISION A
The Junior Aqua team dominated the Division A swim off of the North West Micro League, breaking 6 records along the way. They won by a massive 40 points over nearest rivals Pioneer 79 from Accrington who had a close gala against the two other teams Fleetwood who were 3rd and Preston 4th. This is the forth year in succession the Aqua’s have won the swim off but never by 40 points. This result puts them in the North of England final on the 3rd of October against the other top 5 clubs/squads in the North of England, .all of which will properly be City squads or squads made up of several clubs. A place awaits the top 4 in The National final in November. Come on you Aqua’s.
ECHO CUP
A magnificent win by the Beavers in the first round of the Echo cup beating last year’s runners up Everton by 5 points. Leaving the other Merseyside clubs some way behind. There was some good pb’s by the swimmers as they make a push for a place in the Aqua Team. The only inclusion from the beaver team that takes part in the other leagues was Catherine Gradwell, who due to having a late birthday was able to compete and with her experience showed good leadership for the rest of the team. With one more round to go this result places the team in a fantastic position.
MICRO LEAGUE DIVISION B
The Junior Beavers next outing is the swim off, promotion gala on Saturday 20th September against Division A teams Chorley, Newton Hall and the other Division B team Carnforth who were a division A team until last year. This is going to be a tough match against some of the top clubs around. STOP PRESS Southport Beavers gained a very creditable second-place on Saturday . Full report next month.
PARALYPICS
I’m sure everyone at the club wishes to congratulate Lizzie Simpkin for her fantastic achievements in Beijing in coming 6th in the 100meters butterfly in a new European record and an unexpected 5th in the 100meters backstroke with a 3 second pb. Some exceptional swimming and a great ambassador.
PRESIDENTS CUP.
In the first round of the Liverpool and District Presidents Cup at the Europa Pool in Birkenhead, the senior swimmers 13 – open are now showing the clubs dominance at the senior level beating last years winners Liverpool Penguin by some 40 points., with Birkenhead, Garston and Warrington Warriors some way behind.
