The National Swimming League North West
formally as the SPEEDO LEAGUE The seniors have had to step up their performances recently as they took part in the first round of the Speedo League. After getting promoted into the premier league in 2008, the club had to compete against the top sixteen clubs/squads, from the Scottish board down the Pennines to the midlands, which are full of Olympians and international swimmers. The coaches knew it was going to be a tall order with one of this years objectives being, to remain in the top division. In the first gala the club were the surprise team coming a creditable 3rd place out of 8 teams in their gala. This result secured them a top six position in the league and are surrounded by all the elite full time professional squads in the North West. With two more rounds to go the coaches feel more comfortable about retaining their Premiership status for 2009. This is a magnificent result placing the club seniors firmly on the North West swimming map.

MICRO LEAGUE DIVISION B
The Junior Beaver Team took part in their North West Micro League promotion swim off on the 20th September, with a fantastic incentive of promotion and join the Aqua team in the premier league in 2009. In the closest and most exciting gala this year against Carnforth, Newton Hall (Fylde Coast) and Chorley the towns Beaver Team swam out of their skins. They secured 2nd place just behind Carnforth and gaining promotion by one point over Newton Hall. The team have done some fantastic swims this year and this result far out weighs the coach’s expectations. Well done all you Beavers and the poolside helpers. In 2009 for the first ever in the history of the North West Micro League there will be two teams from one club in the premier league, SOUTHPORT.
NORTH OF ENGLAND FINAL
The Junior Aqua team took on the other top five clubs in the North at the beginning of October. City of Newcastle, City of Leicester, City of Liverpool, Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe and last years National champions Borough of Kirklees (Huddersfield, Batley and Dewsbury combined). It was an intriguing match between Southport and Kirklees with Southport leading the 49 event gala with only 8 events to go and the other big city teams some way behind. At the conclusion Southport just got piped by Kirklees to the title, of being the top junior club in the North of England. Southport hope to get their revenge in the National final when the top four northern teams compete against the top four southern teams. 10 in the in is in or you look to in theAfter analysing the southern final results, Southport Swimming Club is at present ranked second top club in the country. Fantastic achievement by all the young swimmers who took part and the poolside helpers who keep them in control. and focused., well done.
ECHO CUP
Another magnificent win by the Beavers in the second round of the Echo cup when again they beat last year’s runners up Everton by 15 points. Leaving other quality Merseyside clubs some way behind. This puts them joint top of the league with Liverpool Penguin and places them in the final as one of the favourites. The coaches earlier in the season decided that the Beavers would swim the final only to be strengthened with Aqua swimmers were necessary to guarantee the win and to retain the trophy for the fifth year in succession. |
