ECHO CUP
After two fantastic prelimlary rounds, swam by the Beaver teams the coaches had decided to retain most of the same team for the final making changes only were necessary to enable the club to take the title for a fifth year in succession. However in making those changes they didn’t realise how strong this Beaver team would be. They dominated the gala from the first race to the last winning by a massive 91 points comfortably beating all the other Merseyside clubs. In last years final the full Aqua team only won by 90 points. Well done to all the swimmers who swam in any of the rounds and thanks to all the poolside helpers.

SPEEDO LEAGUE
Two fantastic performances in the first two rounds of the North West Premier Division of the National Speedo League, by the senior team against all the top squads in the North West. In the second round they came out in forth place just being piped by 6pts by full time professional outfit Oldham Aquatics. Winning this match was Stockport Metro with 4 Beijing Olympians in the team and second, again full time squad Salford. The team still beat four other squads/clubs this result places them in 6th position in the league and into the final of the top 8 teams for a place in the national final. This is far more than the coaches expected this year, as to avoid relegation was the objective. The final takes place at Liverpool 50m pool on Sunday 14th Dec.

TADPOLE LEAGUE
All the galas have now taken place with some fantastic results individually and collectively as a team. The fear by the coaches was due to having 23 swimmers who couldn’t compete due to their previous success, was the team strong enough to take the club to the overall team trophy? Through out the galas all the swimmers swam fantastic and laid the coaches fear to rest by retaining the overall top club award. Along with the top team race award only failing to win all but one team race were the club came second. Individually a number of swimmers finished in the top 6 in their age group overall bagcat awards. Michael Lyall (12yrs), Nathan Hall (11yrs), William O’Donnell (10yrs), Charlie Hayward (10yrs), Jacob Lea (10yrs), Tom Birtles (10yrs) Alec Scott (10yrs), Cameron Leece (9yrs) Cameron Cheston (9yrs). Beth Hills (12yrs), Rebecca Sutton (12yrs), Jade Forster (11yrs), Lauren Whiteside (11yrs), Joanne Whitingham (10yrs), Martha Lloyd (10yrs), Holly Knowles (10yrs), Elle Delmonte (9yrs) Amy Carroll (9yrs). One of the highlights for the club was in the last gala on the boys 9- 10yrs medley team race when all three Southport teams got first second and third, having 12 Southport swimmers on the medal rostrum for the presentation. Well done to all the swimmers who took part.

PESIDENTS CUP FINAL
This was a closely fought gala between Southport and Liverpool Penguin. In 2007 Southport were beaten by them by 26 points. Southport led all the way until the last 6 races in which Penguins beat Southport in them all, tipping the gala in favour of the Liverpool team. Southport closed last years deficet to 3 points but still weren’t strong enough, with Penguins the eventual winners and the other Liverpool and District top teams some way behind.

NATIONAL JUNIOR FINAL
I’m sure everyone in the club will wish the Junior Aqua team best of luck for the National Junior Final which will take place at Everton Park on Sunday 30th November where it is hoped we can get our revenge from the Northern area final and beat Borough of Kirklees and the other top 6 teams in the country to become National Champions. Good luck Aqua’s.
