NORTH WEST MICRO LEAGUE
With both the Aqua and Beaver Teams competing in the leagues last two galas, both at Dunes the clubs dominance was evident. In the first gala the Aquas won easily with the Beavers having another close battle with Leyland. At the conclusion the Beavers came out on top gaining second place with Leyland third and Carnforth well behind in forth. It was interesting to see the competition between the two Southport teams. In the final gala of the league the Beavers were always going find it tough swimming against the top three clubs from the 2008 season. Although they eventually finished in forth place coaches from both Preston and Pioneer 79 commented how good they were. The Aquas cruised to victory by around 40 points retaining the league championship, with Preston 2nd and Pioneer 3. This defeat for the Beavers, swimming against the top three clubs in one gala effected the final league table positions, with the top four making the league swim off final which leads to the North of England Final. They missed the top forth position by only 18points just behind Fleetwood who made it to the final and Leyland. The coaches were more than happy with the success of the Beaver team finishing well ahead of Carnforth and Blackburn who now swim in the relegation swim off. What’s more pleasing is the improvement the Beaver swimmers have made and are pushing for places in the Aqua team for the finals later in the year. Well done to all the swimmers who competed.
