ECHO CUP
Well done to all those swimmers who competed in the final and throughout this competition. The Final was a close gala between us and Liverpool Penguins, with the coaches attempting to keep the backbone of the team that got us to the final. Southport (335) won by only 8 points over Penguin (327) with the other teams some way in the distance (Crosby 192). This is the sixth year in succession the club have won this competition and the closest any team have been to us, next year will be different. Fantastic gala and really exciting for all who took part well done.
PRESIDENTS CUP
This is the 13 and over’s version of the Echo cup. After last year’s disappointing defeat by only 3 points to Penguin the team and coaches were determined to take this trophy for the first time ever. Straight from the start the Southport team got some early wins but were being challenged by Garston. At the half way mark we had pulled away into a commanding lead and dominated the second half of the gala, winning the competition for the first time by around 40 points. Well done to all that took part, we are now the holders of all the local competition trophies.
NATIONAL ARENA LEAGUE OF THE NORTH WEST. (2nd round)
This was always going to be a tough round, to hopefully take us to the final in December against the other top seven senior squads in the North West of Britain. We had been drawn against six of last year’s finalist and two teams that finished in the top four in the National Final. All the swimmers swam fantastic for the club,
doing some terrific times which enabling us to finish in forth spot again only 8 points behind Preston. With this result it places us in the top six for the final in December not too far behind the clubs ahead of us. Well done to all the swimmers who took part a great result.
TADPOLES 2009
Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part in this year’s competition. This is a fantastic grounding for all the young swimmers, to get use to competing for themselves against others from the local area. More important to get some times over the longer events so the coaches can monitor their improvement. The club again won the overall team trophy and the overall team race trophy. This is a fantastic achievement seeing the club had 28 swimmers who couldn’t enter, due their previous successes. Thanks to all the poolside helpers who at times faced a daunting task.
WELL DONE TO LIZZIE
Well done to Lizzie Simpkin who won two Bronze medals at the European Disability Championships in Iceland, 100m fly and 100m backstroke. She can now take this success forward to the World Championships in Rio at the end of the month, come on Lizzie.
